Former Saints legend Peter Shilton has been arrested for drink driving.

The ex-England goalkeeper was detained after a neighbour dialled 999.

Shilton was charged with having excess alcohol in his system and has been bailed to appear at a court in Colchester later this month.

Police said: “A 63-year-old man will appear at Colchester Magistrates Court on March 19.”

Shilton, 63, of Kenilworth, Warwickshire, is England's most capped player, having made 125 appearances for his country.

He played for Saints for five years between 1982 and 1987, making 188 appearances between the sticks.

Shilton played more than 1000 competitive matches for 11 different clubs throughout his glittering career.
