M27 reopened after major roadworks M27 reopened after major roadworks

A Hampshire motorway was running well this morning after being shut for major roadworks over the weekend.

Roadworks carried on throughout the night into the early hours of this morning as workmen raced to get the work completed before the 5.30asm deadline today.

A stretch of the eastbound carriageway of the M27 has been closed between junctions 4 and 5 until, as essential resurfacing work is completed.

As reported by the Daily Echo, the work will prevent the build up of surface water on the motorway after periods of heavy rain.

Queues were reported on residential streets throughout the day, as traffic clogged up Bassett Green Road in Southampton, as well as Leigh Road, Passfield Avenue and Stoneham Lane in Eastleigh.

But transport chiefs today said the roadworks had "gone very well".

The cleaver part is the unseen brainy work – the engineering, planning and supervision.

Poor old Echo...a much smaller story here as it all went off well & there's nothing to gripe or moan about.

And yes, good-gosh; engineering etc. was the clever part.

This work was justified on the basis that it would save lives.
The proposal to lower the speed limit on the A31 was rejected on the basis that insufficient people had been killed.
Now compare the record on those two stretches...
