THE Mayflower theatre was the setting for a one-off stage extravaganza that aimed to help young people with serious heart problems.

Schools from across the region took part in a variety show in aid of the Daily Echob-acked Wessex Heartbeat’s HIGH 5 appeal, launched to fund a specially designed unit for heart patients aged 16 and upwards.

Schools taking part in the variety show included Cams Hill in Fareham, Thornden in Chandler’s Ford and Otterbourne. They were joined by the E Minor Pop Academy, the SJ Academy of Dance and soloist Olivia Snow.

Compered by Mike Osman, the show included extracts from Les Miserables and The Wizard of Oz, plus 60s soul music and rock.

This was the best £40 I have spent for a very long time. I have no ties with any of the schools or groups but support CentreStage from Eastleigh. What we saw last night was the top Musical, Drama and Dance youth groups in Hampshire and this was for a very good cause. WELL DONE
