Community groups from across Hampshire are celebrating after being awarded a slice of a cash windfall.

The county’s civic chiefs have dished out more than £50,000 to groups that promote culture, community and recreational activities.

Six organisations in the New Forest, Winchester and Test Valley are set to benefit from the funding, which was announced by Hampshire County Council’s culture and recreation supremo, Councillor Keith Chapman.

The Countryside Education Trust, in Beaulieu, is the biggest benefactor after it was handed £39,000 to help put on educational experiences and field work activities.

Test Valley Community Services was given £4,400 to help young people who face barriers to volunteering, while The Carroll Centre in Winchester was handed the same amount to support community use of the new library and to help develop a cafe.

Fawley Parish Council, Parent Link and Winchester Writers’ Conference, Festival and Bookfair also got grants.
