Pensioner died in fall from stairlift, inquest is told

AN elderly woman died after falling from a stairlift at her warden-controlled home, an inquest heard.

Millicent Collier, 83, was found at the bottom of a flight of stairs at a housing complex in Guys Close, Addison Square, Ringwood, on September 24 last year.

Southampton Coroner’s Court heard how Mrs Collier suffered from paroxysmal positional vertigo, which could have contributed to her falling from the chair.

Consultant pathologist Dr Sanjay Jogai, of Southampton General Hospital, said Mrs Collier suffered a large laceration to her eye and had an existing lung condition.

Deputy coroner Gordon Benson recorded a verdict of accidental death, saying: “Other than getting on in years she was perfectly fit.”
