Six-month-old baby died of natural causes
A CORONER has recorded a verdict of death by natural causes after the sudden death of baby.
Olivia Cheal was six months old when she was taken ill at her home in Hollyborne Road, Romsey.
Southampton and New Forest coroner Keith Wiseman told the inquest how Olivia was taken upstairs for an afternoon nap after a feed.
He said her mother Charlotte later went to check on Olivia in her cot and found her daughter in a “floppy” state.
Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation was attempted and she was taken to Southampton General Hospital before she died A post-mortem was carried out by paediatric pathologist Samantha Holden at the hospital.
Mr Wiseman recorded a verdict of death by natural causes.
Summing up the hearing, he said: “It’s a very sad event but it’s something that’s known that for some reason the breathing simply stops.
“I realise how distressing this can be and I express my condolences to everyone.
“I do know from reports that a vast quantity of tests are carried out to find an explanation. In this case, they were all negative I have very little alternative but to record a verdict of death by natural causes.”
