PORTCHESTER Crematorium is considering giving mourners the chance to watch cremations online.

The Portchester Crematorium joint committee, which runs the venue in Upper Cornaway Lane, is investigating the possibility of viewing services using a secure internet link or mobile telephone technology, which could be incorporated into the crematorium website.

This was reported in its development plan for the next five years, which also said it was look at putting genealogy and the chance to view the book of remembrance digitally online.

The crematorium holds around 4,000 cremations a year.

Southampton Crematorium, run by the council, introduced the service of a live webcast five years ago, becoming one of the first to take up the technology.

they are already doing online links at Hedge End , which is very good as some family in the USA and the channel island were able to be a part of a funeral that I attended recently.
