Fire crews tackle chimney fires

Hampshire Fire & Rescue. Hampshire Fire & Rescue.

FIRE crews have dealt with two chimney blazes in the Romsey and Stockbridge areas.

Romsey firefighters spent nearly two hours putting out a chimney fire at a property in Sherfield English on Friday evening.

Two crews tackled the blaze at the house in Salisbury Road.

A Hampshire Fire and Rescue Spokesperson said that a wood burner had been lit and the chimney breast became very hot and crews dealt with a fire in the hearth and chimney.

No damage was reported.

And a Stockbridge crew extinguished a blaze in a chimney at New Cottages in Longstock on Sunday evening. Firefighters used water, rods and brushes to put it out.

Fire officials are now warning householders to sweep chimneys in a bid to prevent this happening to them.
