Laser firm crowned UK's most innovative company
HAMPSHIRE-based laser firm Fianium has been crowned winner of an award aimed at finding the UK’s most innovative and forward-thinking companies.
Fianium, which is based in Ensign Way, Hamble, was named a winner of HSBC’s south and east regional Global Connections initiatives and was selected from six regional finalists.
The company, which manufactures ultrafast fibre lasers, will be awarded up to £6m in lending, plus a financial reward of up to £120,000.
Fianium’s managing director Anatoly Grudinin accepted the award from ITV News presenter Katie Derham at an awards dinner at Hampton Court Palace in London.
It will now compete in the national Global Connections final against eight other companies from around the UK in June, where the overall winner will receive a financial reward of up to £240,000.
Mr Grudinin said: “I am surprised. Regardless of your expectations, it’s always a surprise.
“It’s down to teamwork, and a big thank you to the whole team. I am going to tell everyone we’ve won this award and it will really boost team morale.
“It’s a great achievement and it’s not just monetary.
"We feel proud someone outside the business has appreciated our work.”
