BT HAS announced a further expansion of high-speed fibre broadband in Hampshire.

Another 3,000 homes and businesses in the county will benefit as the £2.5 billion commercial roll-out of fibre broadband boosts services.

Lymington Central and Bassett in Southampton have already been upgraded while Gosport and Lee-on-the-Solent will be next.

It will take the total number of premises with access to fibre broadband in Hampshire to more than 600,000 by the end of Spring 2014.

John Weaver, BT South East regional director, said: “This is another important step forward for Hampshire.

“High-speed digital connectivity is vital to our long-term success.”

Jimmy Chestnutt, chief executive of Hampshire Chamber of Commerce, said: “It’s great to see the super-fast broadband footprint spreading further across Hampshire.

“High-speed digital connectivity is essential if our businesses are to compete.”
