TODAY’S the day you can find your ideal job – or take the first step towards a whole new career path.

The free Daily Echo Jobs Fair 2013 is opening its doors with a record number of employers laying out their stalls.

A diverse range of firms including The Royal Bank of Scotland, BSKYB, Blue Star buses, Quob Stables, Teaching Personnel and the Royal Navy will join eager to recruit care firms, estate agents, recruitment agencies and colleges.

The event, from 10am to 5pm at Southampton Guildhall, offers a golden opportunity to find work, learn about different jobs and maybe decide to change direction.

Today’s event comes as latest figures revealed there are four unemployed people chasing every one job vacancy in Southampton.

The dole queue in Southampton now stands at 5,530 people, or 3.4 per cent.

But Daily Echo recruitment manager Tessa Reid said: “It may be a tough job market out there, but today’s job fair is here to help you stand out from the rest while finding just what opportunities are there for the taking.

“That’s why it’s so important you don’t miss out, so get yourself down to the Guildhall now.

“With more variety and diversity of employers than ever, the Daily Echo Jobs Fair offers a window into the world of work, with banking, IT, Navy, teaching, chefs, care and education recruiters.

“All of them have vacancies and all are willing to offer a feel for their organisations.

“You can also bypass the usual recruitment process, because by getting straight to the people doing the hiring you can find out just what they are looking for and who exactly would fit the bill.

“This offers the chance to then produce a much more focused and professional application that really highlights your relevant qualities.

“There is also the chance to receive general advice and tips on interviews or CVs.

“But best of all, this year we have introduced an exciting series of seminars, offering the opportunity of listening to firms talking about their sector as well as a chance to ask questions.”

The seminars are on IT apprenticeships, working with the elderly, creating a winning CV, becoming a foster carer, careers in recruitment consultancy, careers in journalism, working with special needs, successful interview skills and complex care in the community.

Last year more than 500 people packed out the fair in the first hour alone.

A massive range of candidates attended, from teenagers who had just left college, to people who were hoping to find a part-time job to keep them busy whilst in retirement.
