Feeling the heat for walking to the dump

Letter to the editor: I share your view and feel ashamed of my fellow human beings and their disgusting ways (Editor’s Eye, Rubbish Deterrrents Failing To Stop Flytippers, News Shopper, February 27).

It is the mentality of folk void of pride in their surroundings or perhaps lacking pride in themselves for whatever reason and live by a ‘don’t care’ attitude.

The pettiness at the regulations at the tip in Nathan Way left me lost for words when I attempted to responsibly dispose of a small electrical fire for an elderly, house-bound lady. I put the appliance in my van, parked on the road and walked up the ramp at the tip carrying the appliance.

Suddenly there was shouting from all angles — next to the ramp, side of the ramp — and someone running down the ramp screaming ‘no, no’. I was told in no uncertain terms that I am not allowed to take items by hand.

I was left with a choice of taking it back to the van, driving up the ramp and paying for the privilege, dumping it at the side of the road and risking a fine, or return home with the ‘walking time bomb’ I was about to commit suicide with.

I took it to a nearby Morrisons petrol station where it fitted comfortably in the recycle bin for small electrical appliances.

What do you make of that?
