Dog walker pulled from mud in major rescue operation in New Forest

Dog walker pulled from mud in major rescue operation Dog walker pulled from mud in major rescue operation

A DOG walker sparked a major rescue operation after getting stuck in mud in the New Forest.

Police, fire crews, paramedics, the coastguard and even the Forestry Commission were all called into action to search for the woman who had called for help on her mobile phone but was unable to pinpoint her exact location.

But after being spotted by the police helicopter, firefighters were quickly on the scene and dug her free from the mud with their bare hands.

The 52-year-old woman was found about a mile from Pig Bush car park, on the Beaulieu Road between Beaulieu and Brockenhurst, where she and a friend had set off from to walk her three dogs.

She was then driven back to the car park, where an ambulance was waiting to check her over, before sharing a much-needed cup of tea with the firefighters who saved her.

I agree, anywhere near Pig Bush is a swamp. Saying that, she doesn't look very muddy, just a little stupid. Never mind, she got her fizzog in the paper.

Another reason to ban dog walkers from the Forest. If its not creating no go areas due to the amount of mess they don't clean up its getting stuck in the mud.

This could easily have been a party of Scouts or other hikers who got into trouble due to the mud. Perhaps if the Forestry Commission ceased their policy of creating wetlands (bogs) this would not have happened. The Forest is there for everyone to enjoy, dog walkers included. I applaud the rescue services for their prompt action despite the enormous cost of the rescue.

She's paid the bill. She's a tax payer. This is kind of how the whole "society" thing works: we all contribute so that, when something goes wrong, or we have needs, they're covered.

I presume you pay the full amount for all the roads you use, and the actual full cost of your bins being emptied.

This is no place for that outlandish behaviour.

So glad this lady and her dogs are okay! Well done to the emergency services! Probably a lesson to be learnt by all walkers in the Forest, it is renowned for its bogs, part of its scientific value are these bogs and go hand in hand with some of its unique flora and fauna! After a year of very wet conditions, these bogs have not only become more treacherous, but have spread, they are not easy to see all the time until you get stuck in one, so best to tread with caution!

What ridiculous nonsense is this?
.
You say : "Perhaps if the Forestry Commission ceased their policy of creating wetlands (bogs) this would not have happened."
.
By that logic, let's tarmac over every square inch of the New Forest so that no one can hurt themselves.
.
Yours is a staggeringly absurd point of view.

I would like thank those who came out to rescue me, looking at some of these comments I would like to say that I have been a dog walker for many years and have never found myself in this situation before. The report states that I was unable to pinpoint my location and it is true that because of this it was over an hour before I was located, however what is not reported was that the only number I had a signal to dial was the emergency services, and that it took 7 attempts and only 2 connected calls to get some information across, my name tel no. And roughly where I was and where the car was parked. The signal was very poor and dropped. Had I been able to communicate for longer I could have given the OS grid reference for my exact location therefore saving a lot of time and taxpayers (of which I am one) money. I was told iwas not in the 'usual' place where people get stuck and therefore harder to locate. I am not proud of what happened, it was, in the pure sense of the term, an unfortunate accident, I am safe and well and am very grateful to the accident and emergency services.

Thank you for putting the record straight, I am also glad you are safe and well, it must have been a frightening and distressing situation, you used initiative which avoided a tragedy. I am appalled at some of the sanctimonious posting on here, criticising without having the slightest idea of the facts. This will serve as a warning to others to be careful and also supplied some good practice for the Rescue Teams. No harm done, let us be thankful for that.
