Cars spin off Hampshire motorway in heavy hail storms

Cars spin off motorway in heavy hail storms Cars spin off motorway in heavy hail storms

HEAVY hail storms caused four cars to spin out of control along a Hampshire motorway last night.

Firefighters from Fareham were called to junction 9 of the M27, at 7.20pm, after four motorists got into trouble on the westbound carriageway during the storm.

The cars did not crash into one another, but one did smash into the barrier, leaving the female driver with neck pain.

As a precaution, firefighters cut the roof of her car to get her out safely and she was taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital, in Cosham, for a check-up.

When will people learn to slow down for the road, traffic and weather conditions??

I have driven in dozens of countries, and I have never had a bump.
Reason:-
Proper, defensive driving.

Comming to the game yesterday and whilst on the M25 driving at approx 55mph I aquaplaned, I have mud and snow tyres on a landrover and it still happend, why? because suddenly there was a large puddle in my lane not because I was driving badly, however "well done you"

Wrong - you were going too fast for the conditions. Mud & snow tyres on a motorway.. how is that relevant?

You answered your own question you had what you call mud and snow tyres on which are meant for (wait for it) mud and snow which are designed for off road use not motorways.

I am far too tactful to get the point made quickly.

Many insurance companies (eg L&G) do not accept "aquaplaning" as a valid excuse, and will not pay-up. Its a bit like "I only had three pints, they must have upped the alcohol count without telling me" whining, which I hear at courts on a weekly basis.

If you look at any Police vehicle designed to go off road it will be fitted with 'Mud and Snow' tyres. They do however spend most of their life on Tarmac which the tyres are also designed to run on. The name refers to the pattern which doesn't fill up with 'mud and snow' as easily as as regular road going tyre which won't grip when the tread pattern fills with mud and snow. Some people have driven in dozens of countries and know nothing about the black things that hold them to the road....... Or not.

Sources, please. Show us how the weather equates to drink-driving.

Went up to Kent Friday evening and have just driven back through lots of rain most of the way, oddly I did not see any bad driving which must be a first.

Your ignorance is showing, these are the standard tyres fitted to Landrovers as they offer superb handling in normal conditions then when called upon do a fantastic job in abnormal conditions to the point that I do not need snow chains however when a flash flood accours apart from a tracked vehicle we will all struggle. jpm you are talking rubbish I used to work in a claims dept and they do pay for aquaplaning

Stoneham way just before junction 4, outside lane is awful for aquaplaning. Not sure if it's the surface or if there is a dip in the road there. Not a problem when you know about it but if your from outside the area you could easily have an accident there without any bad driving.

Going home after the game yesterday must say the roads were quite good and not too much traffic either, mind you I think quite a lot of people stayed at home due to the weather

What is “defensive ” driving? Do you mean careful driving?

Unfortunately my experience was different with nose to nose traffic at the M25 road works that were more stop than start. Due to the heavy rain at that point I was particularly impressed with the standard of careful driving that I do not usually see. Due to a radio announcement of difficulties on the M3 I came down the A3 and was again impressed with the care taken by other drivers, especially when driving directly at a very low sun when coming onto the M27. I don't know if it was due to the difficult conditions but the standard of driving seemed higher than I remember ever seeing before.

Hail caused it! Off!!!!!!! Crap driving caused it! Why do people loose the ability too drive as soon as it rains or turns grey? Everyday when it rains someone crashes on the M27 causing misery for the rest of us! Bloody well pay attention during bad weather!

Even the steps in St Marys were slippy after the hail storm during half time, or by your reasoning it must have been crap walking. Hail = small balls of frozen water = no grip and as it happend suddenly and at night, oh whats the point you just like to "feel" superior don't you
