A JOBLESS man was conditionally discharged after a judge heard how he had punched another man who had taunted him.

Arkadjis Petrovs punched Thomas Zapoundis in the face and the pair got into a fight, which led to them grappling on the floor and suffering minor facial injuries.

Petrovs, 33, of St Vincent Road, Southampton, admitted common assault.

Passing sentence at Winchester Crown Court, Judge Peter Henry said although it was a serious matter, he accepted he had been provoked. He gave Petrovs a 12-month conditional discharge with an order to pay £85 costs after being told he had spent almost a fortnight in custody.
