Woman harassed family of missing girl on Facebook
6:10am Tuesday 19th March 2013 in News
A woman will be sentenced today for harassing a Hampshire family on Facebook by claiming to be their daughter who went missing in Germany in 1981.
Donna Wright, 33, from Spennymoor, County Durham, last month admitted sending messages to the family of Katrice Lee in Hampshire.
The two-year-old went missing from a shop near an Army base in Paderborn where Katrice's father was serving.
In an unusual move, Wright was expected to appear for sentencing via a videolink, amid concerns for her mental health. She was not present at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates' Court when she pleaded guilty last month.
After claiming to be the girl, Wright continued to harass the family even after a DNA test proved she was not.
At the previous hearing Jane Scott, defending, said: ''Donna Wright is considered to be a very vulnerable person and she has been admitted to hospital on a number of occasions.''
Katrice's mother Sharon, from Gosport, and father Richard, from Hartlepool, believed their daughter was snatched and could still be alive.
Outside court, Mr Lee said: ''We want a conclusion because we have put up with this since September 2011 and my family has gone through hell.''
