Major delays after two-car crash on motorway Major delays after two-car crash on motorway

MOTORISTS are facing long delays this morning after an accident on a Hampshire motorway.

A collision at around 7.30am blocked lane three of the M27 westbound, approaching junction 5, at Eastleigh, sparking major congestion for rush-hour traffic.

The lane has now been cleared but long queues snake right back to junction 9 and those trying to get onto the motorway at junction 7, from both Hedge End and West End, are also being warned of delays.

Only a fool breaks the two second rule. And most do, so most are fools. Use a 12 car gap at 70 or be next to crash when the car in front brakes hard (and be the one who is blamed for the entire mayhem).

Fair play to the plod. They got there quickly and moved it to the hard shoulder. Sadly, due to rubber-neckers, it didn't get the motorway flowing again.

All very well until some nice person decides to fill the gap for you and you suddenly find yourself less than one car length behind the one in front and if that is the moment something happens you are stuffed. The biggest problem is people do not read the road ahead which forces them to make last minute manoeuvres.

A driver will lose 2 seconds on journey time by easing off the throttle and letting someone in. An insignificant inconvenience for driving in complete safety with a sensible gap.
