THREE NEW dental practices are being launched in Hampshire, offering thousands of NHS places plus late-night, weekend and even bank holiday appointments.

Hampshire and Wight Dental Care says it is on a mission to boost oral health in the county with the promise of a flexible and quality service that is there for patients when they need it most.

With two new practices in Southampton and one in Fareham opening next month, it has 17,000 new NHS places up for grabs and is urging patients to register before it is too late.

The first sites to open will be Weston Lane Dental Surgery and Sharland House Walk-in Dental Centre, in Fareham, on April 2, with Shirley Dental Walk-in Centre, in Cannon Street, opening a few days later on April 9.

The main aim of the walk-in centres is to provide flexible appointment times for patients, something which the private firm believes is not readily available in Southampton at the moment.

They will be open from 9am until 7pm, seven days a week and even on bank holidays, promising that patients in pain will be seen within 24 hours, most often on a sit-and-wait basis.

The Weston Lane Dental Surgery, which Hampshire and Wight will be taking over, will operate from 9am to 5pm on weekdays and will offer evening appointments on two weekdays.

The Shirley practice will have 7,000 NHS spaces available, Weston Lane will have 4,000 and Sharland House will have 6,000 places.

Jesse White, from Hampshire and Wight Dental Care, said: “This is a very exciting time for us and quality will be at the centre of everything we do.

“Through our patient questionnaires we have seen that people feel there is a lack of good dental care in the area so we aim to change that and give patients more choice.

“We also pride ourselves on being flexible and with our out-of-hours services, late-night and weekend openings people who work, those who have trouble with childcare and parents who don’t want to take their children out of school, can all have the treatment they need when they want it.”

Thank goodness.

Locksfarts breath is appalling, and it is too afraid to go for a visit: perhaps this new service will do the trick
