A HAMPSHIRE dad had to have plastic surgery to rebuild his nose after it was bitten off by his best friend.

Doctors used skin from Neil Dowd’s forehead, fat from his stomach and cartilage from his ear in three operations to repair the damage to his face.

The incredible story can be revealed today after Neil’s former pal Geoffrey Hunter,  29, was jailed for 27 months having pleaded guilty to wounding.

I've seen some horrendous injuries but this is one of the worst. I'd like to know more behind why the attack happened as 27 months (serve half) is unbelievable. Awesome work by the surgeon!

These comments are slanderous. They will be reported to the police. A court of law has sentenced a man who pleaded guilty to a horrific attack. CCTV shows what happened, which I have seen and so these so called 'several men' must be invisible to the human eye.

At the end of the day. He bit someone's nose off. He's an animal that deserves to be behind bars. Regardless of how the fight came about. I know Neil well! He is a very kind hearted man and would never just start a fight. As it happens I know hunter too. And I cannot say the same about him. He is where he should be!

It is disgusting that family and friends of a convicted criminal found GUILTY in a court of law and sentenced fail to acknowledge the severity of his crime. Instead they chose to attack the victim and his family, my advice to them is stop attacking innocent people. Lets hope each day spent in prison will be a reminder of this.

The other side is that the A....l admitted guilt, because he initiated the incident with a racist comment. Mr Dowd tried to stop the altercation between 2 friends and became the victim. Check security footage,police evidence and the photographs!!!!!!!!!

of course lets play the 'race' card, for someone who is the least racist person I have ever met I find it very hard to believe that Geoff would say something racist. I too have seen the CCTV footage which clearly shows Geoff being attacked and thrown across a table onto the floor, and him them being set upon by Neil, yes the outcome of this 'fight' and not 'attack' is awful and im sure Geoff wishes it never happened, however, the lies that have been told about what happened on that night, ie, the fact that Geoffs 'friends' were egging him on..he was out with one other person who had fled at the time of this happening, what people are forgetting to state is that he was assaulted by two individuals first. Lets also not forget any 'revenge' attacks also by people who have attacked Geoff in the street whilst he has been walking his dogs. It has ruined two lives which by any standard shows what the effects of alchohol can do to people. Geoff has been portrayed to be an animal, yes the injuries to Neil were awful, but two people in a drunken fight were involved in this, not just a random attack by someone who is 'unhinged' or 'mental'

If I were to read this story without the facts then perhaps I would agree with some of the above posts.

The fact is I sat in court, listened to both the prosecution and defence argument and am outraged at the writing of this report.

On the CCTV of the incident I watched a former Navy serviceman to this country attack Geoffery Hunter from behind, sending him flying across the club, I saw others join in on the attack including the injured sending Geoff to the ground. As the injured was on top of him the attack continued. Geoff was unable to move his arms or legs, and in no way do I condone this but the only form of self defence he could use to stop further blows was his face.

He admitted to biting down on the nose. What was also revealed in court was that if the two were not separated by security at that point, causing the ripping you can see on the images then this level of injury would not have occurred.

This man is not an animal, he did not look for a fight nor set out to hurt anyone that night. The circumstances outside of his control he found himself in caused him to react in this way which unfortunately caused such a horrific injury.

I felt compelled to write this as I hope there are some people that would appreciate the facts of this case. I wish that I could share the CCTV footage.

I would also like to add I am happy to see the fantastic results of the surgery and the casts improvements to this mans nose.

If Mr Hunter was set on where were his injuries?? He had none because the TRUTH is There was no one else involved Also agreed if their was the correct staff this could have ended sooner. Regardless of this a man has serious facial scarring for the rest of his life, biting is NOT self defence it is animalistic. Clearly Mr Hunter was not able to share the truth with his friends and family or he would have no support system as I would be disgusted if my loved one committed such a dispicible act.

The CCTV showed Geoff and the other gentleman talking and then pushing, and then Geoff being thrown across a table onto the floor!!
The gentleman who said it had started with a racist comment then went on to tell further untruths regarding Mr Hunters personal life and the state in which his relationship was in which was complete fabrication, so whose to say the 'racist comment' card was not in fact a lie also on his part to justify why he had assaulted mr hunter

Like an above comment I feel I need to add to this thread I also sat in court for this as a member of the service and the facts are clear and admitted by all parties. A scuffle started between to men, this was described as 'handbags' it was then broken up with no punches being thrown by either party one man walked off to diffuse the situation but one man who was restrained got the wrong idea and thought it was an attack which it turned out not to be. After this the bite happened, at no point in court did I hear the word race said all I heard was nasty comments. The plea of guilty shows an glimmer of remorse and wrongdoing so I hope all parties can get on with their lives

I've sat here all day watching the lies being written, I'm the victim neil and can honestly say that the echo have seen the CCTV so would not write a story that there not sure on, also the CCTV shows Geoff being pushed and also retaliating, I grabbed the nearest person to me which unfortunately was Geoff without aggression and we fell to the floor, he then punched me 15 times plus in the face to which I didn't retaliate, all I did was hold his hands, he was on top of me and then bit me, the CCTV shows this all, I could have retaliated but didn't!!!! Jim had left Kelly's and I was on my own, Geoff didn't get punched or attacked as his arresting pictures show no bruises or cuts, I didn't want this to go this far but felt I needed to tell the full story , I loved Geoff as a friend and shook his hand only 15 minutes before it happened, if him was closer to me I would have grabbed jim ...

Like I've said before the crown prosecution service and the judge saw the truth and dealt with it and the daily echo have seen the CCTV and the evidence and wrote a story as it happened, I understand geoffs friends and family trying to stick up got him but your all very wrong in doing so.

He pleaded guilty which is his only mitigating factor. Either way these injuries are life changing and permanent THAT is why he's in jail. All this mud slinging is just distracting from what is and was a violent crime that isn't acceptable, and to a 'friend' as well! Let's hope he learns from it, and also is big enough to offer a sincere apology not excuses!

He pleaded guilty which is his only mitigating factor. Either way these injuries are life changing and permanent THAT is why he's in jail. All this mud slinging is just distracting from what is and was a violent crime that isn't acceptable, and to a 'friend' as well! Let's hope he learns from it, and also is big enough to offer a sincere apology not excuses!
