GERWYN Price believes he is a better player for his short-term deal with RaboDirect PRO12 leaders Glasgow Warriors and hasn’t ruled out playing for Newport Gwent Dragons one day.

The Cross Keys player joined the Warriors for a month while Pat MacArthur and Dougie Hall were on Scotland duty and two other hookers were out injured.

Price, 28, started in their 36-20 win away to Zebre in February and came on as a replacement in the record 60-3 victory over the Dragons at Rodney Parade later that month.

He is now back with Keys but the Wales Under-21s international from Markham is hoping he can convince Dragons head coach Darren Edwards he can cut it with them.

He has fulfiled his ambition of playing professional rugby but hopes another opportunity presents itself after his brief dalliance in the big time.

“Being with the Warriors was a good experience and I really enjoyed it,” he said. “It was a bit short and sharp, but it was good while it lasted.

“They had their two Scotland internationals back last month and they’ve got two other boys up there. I may be go up to train with them this summer. I’m not sure. I’ll see what happens.”

Price, who trained with the Dragons last summer, scored a remarkable individual try during the Pandy Park’s 32-19 Swalec Cup final victory over Pontypridd at the Millennium Stadium last year and was a member of the Gwent Select XV who defeated the Dragons XV at Rodney Parade in August.

Price is remaining philosophical about his future as a professional player: “I’m not bothered to be honest, I’ll keep working and playing rugby at Cross Keys.

“Being with Glasgow has given me the taste and I always wondered if the step up was a big one, but I don’t think it was.

“If another chance comes then I’ll take it. There was a quick turnaround in games and it was good for me with the conditioning and I learned a lot of things up there.”

Price added: “I was working with the coaches on throw-ins and they taught me a lot as well, so I did benefit from that.

“I don’t think the physicality is much different (between semi-professional and professional) but I just think the game is a lot faster and the players seem a lot more streetwise and more conditioned.”

On the Dragons, Price said: “I know they’ve got their youngsters at hooker coming through and they are keen on Sam (Parry) and Gus (Hugh Gustafson) as well, but I don’t know. Maybe I will have my chance one day.”
