BACUP’S long-awaited Morrisons store is beginning to take shape after engineers moved in to erect steel structures.

The supermarket is due to be opened on the site, between Lee Street and Henrietta Street, later this year.

The company’s battle to build on the 2,020m2 site, formerly home to Horace’s nightclub, rumbled on from late 2006 until July 2011 when planning permission for the store was finally secured.

It is expected to create more than 100 jobs when it opens. Applications for managerial vacancies opened last month.
