A MUM arrested on suspicion of murdering her two young sons has been cleared of any wrongdoing.

Shelly Adams was at the centre of a police investigation into the deaths of Jayden and Bradley in 2011.

The 27-year-old was arrested in April that year on suspicion of the murder of four-year-old Bradley, who died at Southampton General Hospital after being found unconscious at home.

She was re-arrested in August last year and questioned over how two-year-old Jayden died in January 2011.

Officers made the fresh arrest after Ms Adams answered bail in connection with the investigation of how Bradley died after more evidence came to light.

But police have now confirmed that Ms Adams has been released from bail with no further action to be taken after consultations with the Crown Prosecution Service.

The Daily Echo reported how detectives from Hampshire’s major crime team launched an investigation after the two brothers died just three months apart.

At the time of her arrest, neighbours told of their shock and sadness over the deaths.

The Daily Echo is unable to identify where Ms Adams lives for legal reasons but neighbours described the children as “absolutely gorgeous” and described their deaths as “tragic”.

One person, who spoke at the time but asked not to be named, told how Jayden had suffered convulsions on New Year’s Day 2011 and died just days later.

Bradley failed to respond to treatment in hospital and the decision was taken to turn off his life support machine when doctors said that nothing more could be done for him.

A post-mortem examination carried out to determine what caused the toddlers’ deaths proved inconclusive.

Officers carried out extensive searches of the family home, on the western side of Southampton, and forensics teams removed various items from the property, including a bed, a mattress and pillows.

A spokesman for Hampshire police said: “After consultations with the Crown Prosecution Service, it has been agreed that a 27-year-old Southampton woman can now be released from bail with no further action to be taken. The woman was arrested in April 2011 on suspicion of the murder of a boy, aged four.]

“In November, she was arrested again on suspicion of the murder of a boy, aged two.”

Members of Shelly Adams’ family did not want to comment.
