A woman, who threatened a boycott over noisy milk rounds in the middle of the night believes the company has taken action to end the problem.

The resident, who wants to remain anonymous but lives only a few hundred metres from the centre of Epsom, complained to Dairy Crest on April 26 that for about the last six weeks she has been woken up three times a week by their milk float.

In her complaint, which she copied to the Epsom Guardian, she said: "Furious and shattered. Your drivers for milk&more use noisy vehicles, slam doors and leave engines running at 2.35 am whenever they deliver to my quiet road in Epsom.

"I am going to start taking photographs and canvass neighbours to boycott all Dairy Crest products if you don't move to daylight hours."

On Tuesday the woman, told the paper the night-time milk rounds had now stopped completely, adding: "They have obviously listened. It’s early days but I’m hopeful."

She said that after being woken up she could not get back to sleep for up to two hours.

She said: "It’s a really bad point in the night for me. When it’s two o’clock and it wakes you up, you are just on the cusp of deep sleep. It was awful."

But a Dairy Crest spokeswoman insisted that it had not make any changes to the round: "We would like to reassure our customers that no rounds have been stopped or affected in the Epsom area, we do make an effort to listen to feedback we receive and are happy the issue has been resolved."

The complaint follows another last month when a man, from Ewell Court, was woken up by the roar of a diesel milk&more float, the glare of its headlights and slamming doors at 4am.

And Henry McMorrow, who used to live in Gayton Close, Ashtead, said an electric milk float used to drive down the street as early as 3am.

He said: "To have that delivery time is ludicrous. It’s so early in the morning. My mother is a really light sleeper and could not get back to sleep."
