THE first of a new generation of mini-supermarkets with a fresh approach to food opened its doors in Southampton today.

Morrisons has converted the former Ethel Austin in Shirley High Street into its first Morrison’s M store in the south outside London.

The outlet, which is employing 20 staff, is one of a new line of convenience stores focusing on healthy eating by offering a wider range of fruit, vegetables, meat and fish, and a range of high quality ready meals.

Last month the company was given the go-ahead to create a giant £30m supermarket in the empty East Street shopping centre in St Mary’s.
