A FORMER teacher died just months after his wife’s death, an inquest heard.

Edward Visick, 92, was found by a friend lying in the kitchen of his home in Sandy Down, Boldre, Lymington, on February 6 this year.

His inquest, at Southampton Coroner’s Court, heard how friend Nigel Press discovered the former Priestlands School teacher, known as Bill, on the kitchen floor at his home after attempts to phone him failed.

The court heard how Mr Visick became increasingly frail following the death of his wife Peggy in November 2012.

In a statement read out by Southampton and New Forest coroner Keith Wiseman, Mr Press – who would help Mr Visick and had returned home from a three-week holiday with wife Janise earlier that week – said he found Mr Visick’s back door was unlocked.

He added that Mr Visick’s cleaner had made his bed on February 4, but it had appeared no one had been in the bed when Mr Visick was found.

Mr Visick passed away at Southampton General Hospital in the early hours of February 7.

Recording a verdict of death by natural causes, Mr Wiseman said: “It’s important that I am entirely satisfied there was nothing more that could have been done for him. I am sure everyone was doing the very best they could.”
