PLANS for a new state-of-the-art care home are to be put on show for the residents of Blunsdon to examine.

Castleoak is planning to build the care home on land near Salzgitter Drive, opposite the Jovial Monk pub.

It will be a specialist care home for residents with dementia and other learning disabilities.

The developers say it will be built to the highest standard of dementia care.

Currently outline planning permission has been granted for a care home to be built on the land, which is close to the Abbey Meads speedway stadium The next stage is to put together final plans which will then be submitted to the council for final approval.

Castleoak is keen to put the plans to the public and says it will take on board any feedback.

In a letter to residents signed by planning manager Mohammad Hassan, the company said: “Our approach is partnership-led from the outset, and we genuinely value the views of the community where we work.

“We have drafted a scheme that we would like to present to the local community.

“And feedback from this consultation event will play a key role in helping us to finalise the design ahead of seeking planning permission from the local authority.”

The company has said the 73- bedroom home will cost £6m.

It is hoped it will create 80 new jobs in a variety of positions.

Stirling University has devised a best practice guide for dementia services and the new care home will be designed to the standard it has set out.

There will be a colour coding system throughout the building and corridors will be extra wide so residents can receive the best possible care.

The consultation will take place on July 4.

A spokesman for the company said: “As well as viewing the scheme, members of our project team will be present to discuss the proposals in more detail and answer any questions.

“Feedback from the consultation event will play a key role in helping us to finalise the design ahead of seeking planning permission from the local authority.”

The Jovial Monk pub on Highdown Way will host the consultation which will run from 2pm until 7pm.
