FROM onesie-wearing boys to girls wearing sparkling tiaras, our school leavers have had no shortage of glitz and glamour for this year’s proms season.

And then of course there was the transport.

They arrived in racing cars, tractors and golf buggies or surrounded by revving mopeds or motorbikes.

This year’s proms have been bigger and better than ever.

Of course, American teens have been celebrating the end of formal education in this way since the 1930s, but the idea only arrived on this side of the pond in the late 1990s.

Since then, proms have grown in popularity with encouragement from TV shows including My Super Sweet 16 and Glee as well as films set in American high schools.

The average UK parent will now spend about £250 on their youngster’s ticket, outfit and transport.

But the months of planning and preparation certainly paid off this year, ensuring everyone arrived in style and looked their best as they said their final farewells to their teachers and classmates.

* Now you can see all the glitz and glamour in our two special Proms supplements – the first tomorrow and the second on Wednesday, July 17.
