The methods experts use to uncover the past will be revealed at the Wiltshire Archaeology and Conservation Fair on Sunday.
Twenty organisations are taking part in the free event from 11am to 4pm, hosted by Wiltshire Council as part of the British Festival of Archaeology.
Visitors to Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre in Cocklebury Road, Chippenham, can tour the conservation labs where ancient artefacts are investigated and see the latest finds in the labs for conservation.
Stuart Wheeler, cabinet member for heritage and arts, said: “Wiltshire has a rich and varied history and this is a great opportunity to glimpse into how our professionals tease out the stories from the past.”
There will be information for those considering a career in archaeology and a series of short talks will run throughout the day, including updates on archaeology surveys by English Heritage.
