HIS theme tune for Basingstoke gained nearly 17,000 hits on YouTube – and now a songwriter hopes to score a similar success with a football-themed follow-up.

Last year, David Miles showed his love for the town by writing a song in its honour, accompanied by a backing track and video which he produced at his home.

Now, the 37-year-old father-of-one, from Brighton Hill, has created a new song dedicated to the town’s football club, which he hopes will be just as popular.

David studied product design at Swansea Metropolitan University, but ended up in a job as a civil servant.

So to find an outlet for his creativity and passion for music he decided to write songs and shoot videos to accompany them, which he posts on YouTube.

His Basingstoke Theme Song included lyrics about all the aspects of Basingstoke that David loves, such as the theatres, Leisure Park, The Malls and various parks.

His new track is all about Basingstoke Town Football Club, and he said the message behind the song is “support local.”

He added: “There are some world-class people and organisations locally, and this is about supporting what Basingstoke has going on within its boundaries.

“I have been working closely with the club, and the song is about the club looking forward to the future.”

Lee Atkins, a director of Basingstoke Town FC, said: “When I heard the song and that it was about the football club, I was blown away. We worked closely with David to give him all the access he wanted and I think it’s brilliant.

“I think for David to be so passionate about his local area and his local football club is brilliant. I really like the song and I think David is great.”
