PLANS to expand a Southampton school have been approved.

Permission has been granted to build two new classrooms at Highfield Primary School.

One will be created by a single storey extension to the north east of the existing school building in Hawthorn Road and the other by a single storey extension to the south east of the building.

It is part of a city-wide push by the council to meet a growing demand for more school places, with work expected to be completed before the start of the school year in September 2014.
