THEIR engines roared for the fight against leukaemia.

Talented riders from across the county took part in the final round of the Hampshire Motocross Championship 2013 in aid of Southampton-based charity Leukaemia Busters.

Thousands of spectators descended on Matterley Basin, near Winchester, to enjoy the entertainment, which included a barbecue, live music, and a beer tent, before the adrenaline-fuelled action got under way yesterday morning.

Top riders Scott Elderfield and Ross Hill were in action along with regular club riders.

The participants weaved their way around the challenging track and over a number of dips and brows to the delight of the crowd.

The annual event brings the 2013 season to an end.

Organisers Jamie and Michelle Sanderson and their team have raised more than £250,000 for the charity since 1996.

The charity’s flagship laboratory, The Simon Flavell Leukaemia Research Laboratory, is named after ten-year-old Simon Flavell, who passed away in 1990 after battling the disease.

The charity, which is based in Southampton General Hospital, is directed by his parents, doctors David and Bee Flavell.
