A POLICE helicopter is currently circling over Millbrook in Southampton hunting for a dangerous driver.

Officers from Shirley and Millbrook are involved in the search for a person at the wheel of a large off-road scrambler bike which has been seen being driven erratically through the area.

The alarm was raised around 1pm by concerned residents who saw the red and white two-wheeled vehicle racing up and down their street. The driver was not thought to be wearing any kind of safety helmet.

Daily Echo:

One woman who didn't want to be named told how she saw a biker racing around Mansel Park area this morning, driving at approximately 50 miles per hour.

Officers say they have also had reports of the bike being spotted in Ullswater Road and Windemere Avenue today.

Several police officers are in the area on bikes and on foot and have been stopping and talking to residents.

A Hampshire police spokesman said anyone who spots the scrambler bike being driven should call 999, while anyone who knows the person responsible is asked to call 101.

Daily Echo:

It comes just two days after the national police air support service launched a helicopter over the same area looking for nuisance motorcyclists, just after 4pm on Sunday.

When you find them, don't be too health and safety aware.. backing off in case the rider is hurt,,, Just ram something in the front wheel and throw the little git over the handlebars.... They don't deserve anything less....

Is it just me or does this just seem like a complete waste of money again ! Was it only on Sunday that they were flying around the skies of Southampton to catch 4 kids on mopeds ! This is not rocket science, stick some coppers out in the local area, a scrambler can be heard from about 3 miles away, find the little sod and knock him off, job done ! This is the one thing the Americans have got right, don't pull them over nicely and read them their rights, knock them off with the meat wagon and drag them off to the station.

Like you say a complete waste of money, manpower and resources, just keep a eye, have all squad cars aware and you'll get them eventually. Its not crime of the century is it really, we as kids used to buy old motorbikes from a scrap man and all chip-in for petrol and ride it in a local field, allthough it was illegal and you'd get a good telling off from the local plod we didn't do anyone any harm, except ourselves...lol

Personally seeing the damage these toe rags do to sports pitches ( only seem to ride over them when it's been raining?) & seeing it's breaking the law with no concern to pedestrians old & young plus the way it would effect any driver who might hit them I think they should chase them.
Either they stop or if an accident occurs sorry but they could have stopped so it would be there's & if young the parents who allow then to do it not the coppers if it's fatal sorry but again who allowed them to ride bikes or quads with no license or no helmet & no care for any one else? Chase Them Arrest them & if underage ARREST their parents

Well i doubt any of you who comment on this actually understand the interest in these nuisance bikers. there have been a spate of bike thefts recently across the city area and most of these stolen bikes are ending up around the millbrook area including my own, its hardly a waste of taxpayers money anyway, it stops uninsured s***s of drivers, who have no respect for any one else, being on the road saving you any damages you may suffer when they decide to crash into your car/bike and/ or steal it. Any self respecting biker wouldn't ride their machine around with no helmet or like an ****. So why wouldn't you want to catch these people?

Shouldn't it be rider, not driver? I mean, when I read the title, I thought it was someone bombing it around in a saxo or something, either way, the perpetrator is reckless and dangerous to themselves and others.

I was coaching Rugby to kids & one of these underaged no license no insurance riders nearly hit our kids.
I've also been to Oasis school lessons(Rugby) where these idiots have dug up the pitches.
I've seen in a full adult game a father who was playing football give a pat on the back to his son who rode a trial bike right across the Rugby pitch just missing a scrum.
I asked the Police why they never gave chase on bikes or car & it's because of the uproar if the riders end up in a fatal accident?
I said so rob a bank, burgle a house & get on an illegal motorbike & no police chase?
This is breaking the law & the Police should be allowed to chase the law breakers no matter what the consequence as they can always stop can't they?
