Rugby club pitches given the go-ahead
4:20pm Wednesday 14th August 2013 in News
THE final go-ahead has been given by Alresford Town Council for the local rugby club to build two pitches at Arlebury Park.
A specially-convened council meeting passed resolutions that enable the work to be done. The slope will be levelled with work due to start in the next two weeks.
The issue was beset with controversy with Cllr Roy Gentry unhappy that part of the land is only on a 15-year lease from landowner Rodney Morgan-Giles.
But the council has been persuaded, as have outside funders such as Sport England and the Rugby Football Union.
Hugh Ogus, club president, said: “Alresford Rugby Football Club is very grateful to the council for finally supporting the venture.”
