Healthy lift for Guide Dog fund
11:00am Wednesday 28th August 2013 in News
ANDOVER Guide Dogs are closing in on their goal of raising £5,000 towards naming a new puppy in time for Christmas.
Local healthcare provider Simplyhealth has given the campaign a shot in the arm with a £1,432 donation.
Simplyhealth has shown its support for the charity in the previous years and were able to help again this year by donating the proceeds of its monthly charitable day held in July.
Denise Timms, Andover Guide Dogs Group organiser, said: “This is a very welcome donation which will make a sizeable contribution to the £5,000 which we need to support and name a 12th puppy to become a fully trained guide dog.
“With Simplyhealth’s donation and the proceeds from our charity open day at Longstock Park water garden on 1 September, it should mean we will be able to name another puppy to train up to help blind and partially sighted people in the Andover area very soon.”
Mark Day, spokesman for Simplyhealth said: “We were pleased to be able to provide funding last year to allow puppy Jessie to become a fully trained guide dog and we are equally delighted to offer our support again this year.
“The charity provides an essential service to people who are blind or partially sighted and we are looking forward to meeting Andover Guide Dogs’ latest recruit in a few months."
