SCHOOLS were the scene of mixed emotions yesterday as youngsters found out how they fared in this year’s GCSE exams.
While some achieved the grades, there was a shock for others as years of grade inflation were reversed with fewer achieving the required C grade than before.
Figures published by the exam boards showed that the number of pupils gaining a C grade was down by 1.3 percentage points to 68.1 per cent.
The Joint Council for Qualifications data released yesterday also showed that the overall proportion of tests marked A* or A fell by more than one percentage point to 21.3 per cent.
A full round up, and photos of how our local schools celebrated, will appear in next week’s Andover Advertiser.
