First testing of Titanic II to take place
1:06pm Saturday 24th August 2013 in News
THE first model testing of the Titanic II will take place next month.
A 9.3m model of the liner, an exact replica of the original Titanic which will sail from Southampton in 2016, will be tested in Germany.
Australian billionaire Professor Clive Palmer unveiled plans to rebuild the cruise liner, which sank after hitting an iceberg in 1912, last year.
It will be built in China, before her maiden passenger voyage will retrace the original Titanic’s voyage between Southampton and New York.
The wooden model will be put through resistance and powering tests in a 300m long tank in Hamburg by hydrodynamics firm Hamburg Ship Model Basin.
Prof Palmer said: “This model testing will be an important stage in the Titanic II project.
“This testing is crucial for assessing the speed and power performance of this prototype vessel design."
