Eastleigh Borough Council attempts to move travellers camp at Passfield Avenue
5:16pm Sunday 25th August 2013 in News
CIVIC chiefs are awaiting the outcome of a needs assessment before taking the next step in moving travellers from their land in Eastleigh.
An encampment of 14 caravans and 34 people has been set up at Passfield Avenue in the town since 5.20pm on Tuesday.
Police were called in to assess the situation and representatives for land owners Eastleigh Borough Council have been down to the site to ask the travellers to vacate the land.
A council spokesman said the first stage of the procedure was to get a welfare assessment done by Hampshire County Council.
This was done late on Wednesday and it was awaiting the results before it could take the appropriate action.
He said this could include applying to the courts to get the travellers removed.
