Two arrested for baseball attack outside Hedge End Conservative Club
A MAN was attacked with a baseball bat outside a Hampshire Conservative club while it was holding its summer ball, police say.
According to Hampshire Police two men turned up outside the club, one of whom was wielding a baseball bat which was then used to assault the man standing nearby.
Staff detained one of the men soon after.
Police then arrived and arrested two men, both aged 43. They were later released on bail until October 10.
The victim required no hospital treatment.
Shocked neighbour Ray Hall said: “This is the worst incident that I can remember happening at the Conservative Club.
“Hopefully it will be the last incident, yobs should be aware that the club’s president is a former detective.”
When the Daily Echo tried to contact the club’s president, Chris Yates, he was unavailable for comment.
Today police are appealing for information or anyone who may have witnessed the incident on Saturday at 10.30pm. A spokesman said: “This is an unusual incident which happened outside a Conservative Club holding its summer party and any witnesses to the event or who has any information are urged to contact Hedge End police on 101.”
