New bus service to be trialled
1:00pm Tuesday 27th August 2013 in News
A NEW door-to-door minibus service for elderly and disabled passengers is launching tomorrow in the Test Valley.
Test Valley Community Services will be running the fortnightly trial route between Lockerly, the Tytherleys and Romsey.
The 15-seater vehicle is an additional service to the Dial A Ride bus ride.
It sets off from 9am-9.45am for the one-hour journey to Romsey, passing through Awbridge, Lockerley, East and West Dean and East and West Tytherley before returning from 11.30am and 12.15pm.
Drivers will stop outside passengers’ homes and help them carry shopping to the front door, while a rear passenger lift is available for those with limited mobility.
Community transport manager Dick Hewett said: “If the service is successful on a fortnightly basis, then we will consider increasing it to weekly.
“However, that will only happen if local residents support it. The simple message is use it or lose it.”
Fares cost £4, with Concessionary Farepass holders travelling for £2.
Travel must be booked by noon the previous day by calling 01264 356808.
