A man is due in court today charged with the murder of a Southampton dad.
Damon Wright, aged 31, of Pine Vale Crescent, Bournemouth, Dorset was charged yesterday with the murder of Kevin Wyeth whose body was found in Woolston early on Saturday.
He will appear before Southampton Magistrates Court this morning.
The charge came as scores of flowers continued to mount up at the scene of Kevin’s death on Defender Road.
Amid the sea of bouquets lay a bunch of red roses, with a card from Kevin’s mum, Linda.
It read: “My beautiful son, you have been taken away from me and your family so brutally. I am heartbroken and don’t know how to cope. I promise to do all I can for your lovely boys.
“God bless and look after my boy!
“He did not deserve this.
“Rest in peace sweet, I will always love and miss you so much, Mum.”
Another touching family tribute read: “Big brother, what an amazing person you were, you showed me everything I knew and helped me become the person I was today.
“What a legend in everyone’s eyes, you’re never forgotten mate, lots of love your little brother.”
A tribute from Kevin’s nan and uncle Glen read: “My dear grandson, little Kevin, tragically taken from us, will love your forever, heartbroken.”
A home-made card was also made by fether-of-three Kevin’s niece Mya.
It read: “I wished it never happened and now I see you not happy and now sad, I will always miss you, I will never forget you, you will always be in my heart, I’ll miss you.”
In the middle of the flowers a shrine to his love of football has been created, complete with England squad teddy bear and football shirt from his beloved Southampton Football Club, where he had just started a new job at the club’s training ground.
A pen also lay on a card open to anyone who wishes to leave a tribute.
Detective Inspector Ellie Hurd from the Major Crime Investigation Team said: "I would like to thank the local community in the Woolston area for their assistance with our investigation which has led to today's charge."
Anton Allera, Senior District Crown Prosecutor for the Crown Prosecution Service in Wessex said: “I have today authorised Hampshire Constabulary to charge Damon Wright with the murder of Kevin Wyeth, 31, from Woolston, Southampton.
"Mr Wyeth was found severely injured and unconscious in an alley that runs between Defender Road and Tankerville Road, in Southampton, in the early hours of Saturday. He died as a result of his injuries.
“I have carefully considered the evidence currently available in this case and I am satisfied that there is sufficient evidence and it is in the public interest for Damon Wright to be charged with an offence of murder.
“This decision was made in accordance with the Code for Crown Prosecutors.”
