ON the common it may have been, but a get-together in Hartley Wintney was certainly very refined and relaxing.
Hundreds of villagers enjoyed the annual Culture on the Common event at a marquee set up on the Cricket Green to indulge in some teas and cakes, provided by the local WI.
They were entertained by harpist Rachel Wick, from the Royal Academy of Music, with pensioners sipping tea as they listened and toddlers dancing. There was also an exhibition of the work of local artists and outside the marquee, visitors were able to enjoy watching the cricket in the sunshine Organiser Amanda Gregory, events manager for the parish council, said it had been a great way to bring the community together.
She said: “It’s not about raising money; it’s an opportunity for everyone to get together. There’s a real mix of people and there’s lots of families who have come along.”
Volunteer group Friends of Hartley Wintney lent a helping hand in setting up the event and representatives from St Mary’s Church in the village were also on hand raising money.
