Yew Tree’s landlord Tim Gray celebrates top honour for a second time
When it comes to running a pub there’s not a better host in the country than Hampshire’s Tim Gray.
Tim can today toast himself after being named 2014 Landlord of the Year.
The 45-year-old runs the Yew Tree in Lower Wield. He won the same award in 2010 and said he was thrilled to be recognised again.
Mr Gray said: “To win it once was fantastic but to win it a second time is an unbelievable honour.
“It’s something you are awarded rather than enter and it says a lot about the hard work of the whole team here.
“There’s only 12 of us or so but we are all part of the chain and have all contributed to this. And the support of my family has been great as they have to put up with me working all the time.”
He added the pub stands out because of the staff’s hard work maintaining high standards.
Published annually, the 2014 guide was full of praise for Mr Gray and said: “Tim Gray, at his Yew Tree in Lower Wield, so hard-working, so ever-present and so consistently cheerful, is Landlord of the Year 2014.
“Unfailingly good service from the enthusiastic and charming landlord and his helpful staff, fair prices for the interesting ales and top quality food and an easy-going, friendly atmosphere, all contribute to our readers’ enjoyment of this smashing little pub.”
It is compiled through feedback from 2,000 correspondents, backed up by editors’ inspections.
