University of Winchester to host International Children of War Conference
1:50pm Thursday 29th August 2013 in News
A summit in Winchester will explore the devastating impact war has on children.
The University of Winchester will hold the 5th International Children of War Conference to coincide with the 20th anniversary of War Child, the UK charity founded to work with young people affected by conflicts.
Organiser Dr Christine Ryan said: “The significance of the conference is that it offers a multi-disciplinary platform, enabling academic engagement with the topic of how children experience and process conflict.
“It aims to encompass both historical and current case studies, as well as draw on conflict areas from around the world.”
Delegates will attend from across the UK, Europe, USA, Africa, the Middle East and Asia to discuss case studies dating from the 1940s to the modern day.
Rob Williams, CEO of War Child, will open the conference with his presentation An Unwanted Truth: putting a spotlight on sexual violence against children in conflict.
The conference is being held at West Downs, University of Winchester, from September 4 to 6.
