Man hit by freight train

PASSENGERS have faced long delays today after a man was hit by a freight train at a Hampshire railway bridge.
The death, which is not being treated as suspicious, was reported to the British Transport Police (BTP) at 4pm this afternoon It caused widespread disruption to the railway network, closing the London-bound line between Winchester and Basingstoke.
The incident took place on the railway line at the Battledown Flyover, near where Pack Lane passes beneath the railway bridges between Kempshott and Oakley.
BTP officers were at the scene this afternoon, as well as colleagues from Hampshire Constabulary and a private ambulance.
Medics from South Central Ambulance Service also attended, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. A file is being prepared for the coroner.
The long freight train carrying shipping containers had stopped at the scene of the incident.
