Youngster gives a stunning performance at European bowling contest
JUST five months ago schoolboy Oliver Fletcher only bowled twice a year.
But now the talented Southampton youngster has bowled over experts with his talent.
Despite his lack of experience the 11-year-old finished runner-up in a major European competition.
Oliver, who lives in Violet Road, Bassett beat off competition from Germany, Holland, Belgium and Russia to finish second at the Youth Euro Trophy, held in Worthing.
He joined Millbrook Youth Bowling Club in April, after seeing a flyer on a desk and trying it out.
He soon found that bowling was right up his alley and now he plays every week at Ten Pin Bowling in Millbrook.
Oliver came into the tournament as one of six members of the Millbrook-based club who were, Ben Edwards, Samantha Roberts, Ethan Bunting, Amy Grace, and James Grace.
After the tournament, Oliver’s proud mum Diane Fletcher, 52, who home tutors Oliver, said: “I am like a fox with four tails I am so proud of him for getting this far and it far exceeded what we ever thought he would do.”
Speaking about his achievement, Oliver said: “It felt brilliant. It is the first competition I have got a prize for.
“I didn’t realise how well I was doing half the time, but it helped me to stop and think before I bowled.”
