Man hit by train was from Basingstoke
THE man who died when he was struck by a train near Oakley last night lived in Basingstoke.
The 38-year-old man was struck by a freight train on the line between Basingstoke and Micheldever, near the Battledown Flyover, at 4pm yesterday afternoon.
Medics from the South Central Ambulance Service attended but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers from the British Transport Police (BTP) are treating the death of non-suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner.
All BTP officers left the scene at 6.43pm last night. The incident caused delays and cancellations to services travelling from Winchester to Basingstoke.
