Basingstoke Sports Trust gets £50,000 boost
A TRUST which manages Basingstoke Sports Centre has been awarded £50,000 from the National Lottery.
Basingstoke Sports Trust was one of 1,300 projects in the country to receive funds from Sport England and will use the money towards refurbishing the changing rooms at the centre, in Festival Place.
The funding came from Sport England’s Inspired Facilities programme, which is part of the Olympic and Paralympic legacy.
James Starbuck, chief executive of the trust, said: “This is fantastic news for the trust and our customers. As a charity, we rely almost entirely upon the fees our customers pay to support the facility and continue to develop it.
“This award means we are able to refurbish our male changing rooms and bring them up to the same quality as the rest of the building.”
Maria Miller, MP for Basingstoke and Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, said: “The new funding will enable the Sports Centre to further improve their facilities, and help them to attract more people in Basingstoke into taking up sport and physical activity.”
The £100,000 changing rooms project is due to start later this year and be completed before the new year.
