Award scheme to honour country's organ donors
4:00pm Tuesday 3rd September 2013 in News
A NEW award scheme is being launched to honour organ donors across the country who have saved lives and given hope.
The awards will be given posthumously to those men and woman whose deaths have helped to save the lives of those who have been given a second chance.
Ceremonies across the country will be held throughout October and November to ensure everyone who has made a difference is recognised.
The award has been created by the Order of St John charity, in collaboration with NHS Blood and Transplant.
Sally Johnson, from NHS Blood and Transplant, said: “A change in public attitudes around donation is needed across the UK if more lives are going to be saved through organ transplantation. We need everyone to be proud to donate, when and if they can.
“We hope receiving this new award will mean a great deal to those who have lost someone close to them but also give them renewed pride in their decision to agree to donation.”
