Sign up for the Basingstoke Moonlight Walk
THERE are just days to go before the first-ever Basingstoke Moonlight Walk – but there’s still time for entrants to get involved.
The Moonlight Walk will begin at 10pm on Saturday, September 7, with participants heading off from Porchester Square, in Festival Place.
Organisers hope the earlier start time will make it more practical for younger girls to take part in the fundraising event.
All women and girls, aged 11 and over, are being invited to take part. Entrants of all fitness levels should be able to navigate the 8.5-mile course, which will begin and end at the shopping centre and pass through various areas including Kempshott and Hatch Warren.
The hospice is encouraging groups, clubs and companies to get teams together to take part. Registration for the event will open at 8pm inside Festival Place, with the warm-up starting at 9.45pm.
Last year, more than 500 women and girls took part in the Midnight Walk, raising around £30,000.
Iain Cameron, director of income generation at St. Michael’s Hospice, said: “This is our first Moonlight Walk, replacing the much-loved Midnight Walk.
“This year, we are hoping 500 walkers will take part and help to raise £40,000.
“I really look forward to seeing as many people as possible involved, helping St Michael’s Hospice to provide the very best care to patients and families throughout Basingstoke and north Hampshire.
“I would also like to thank Festival Place for the incredible support and venue they provide in the staging of this event.”
For those registering in advance, the entry fee will be £16 for adults and £10 for children aged between 11 and 17. On the night, registration will cost £20 per adult and £12 for 11 to 17-year-olds.
The entry fee includes a continental breakfast provided by members of The Rotary Club of Basingstoke Deane, and all those who complete the course will also receive a medal.
