Forty-year-old motorcyclist dies in crash on Third Avenue in Southampton
A MOTORCYCLIST has died today after colliding with a barrier in Southampton.
The 40-year-old local man struck the barrier in Third Avenue before 5.20pm, and died despite the best efforts of medical crews.
Ambulance crews and police were called to the road, which runs parallel to Millbrook Road West, at 5.18pm.
The motorcyclist had left the road and collided with a metal barrier.
The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance landed at the scene, where he was treated by paramedics and doctors.
He was taken by road ambulance to Southampton General Hospital but subsequently died of his injuries.
His next of kin have been informed.
The road is currently closed and is expected to be for several hours.
